What happened?
On November 23, 2025, Hillsborough County experienced a network outage that was later confirmed to be the result of a cybersecurity incident. As soon as we identified the issue, we activated our incident response protocols and took affected systems offline to protect our network and data.
Is public safety impacted?
No. All public safety operations continue to function normally, including emergency services. Police, fire, EMS, and 911 services remain fully operational.
Why were systems taken offline?
Out of an abundance of caution, we took systems offline to contain the issue and prevent further impact. This is a standard and precautionary step during any suspected cybersecurity incident.
What is the County doing to respond?
We are working with third-party cybersecurity experts to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the nature and scope of the incident. We are also coordinating with federal and county law enforcement. Additional security measures and enhanced monitoring have been implemented across the network.
Was any personal information compromised?
At this stage in the investigation, we have no evidence that residents’ or employees’ personal information has been impacted.
What services are currently affected?
Some internal systems were taken offline out of precaution and may experience temporary disruptions as we complete our investigation and safely restore full functionality. Essential public services remain unaffected.
How long will it take to restore all systems?
Our teams are working around the clock to bring systems back online safely. Because this is an active and evolving investigation, we do not yet have an exact timeline. Restoring services securely is our priority.
Should residents take any action?
At this time, no action is required from residents. We will communicate directly if any additional steps become necessary.
How will the County provide updates?
Updates will be posted on the County’s website and shared through official County communication channels. We will continue to provide additional information as appropriate.
Is the County working with law enforcement?
Yes. We are in contact with federal and county law enforcement agencies who are supporting our investigation.
